WellFest Ireland came back in 2022 after a couple of years break due to Covid. It felt so good to be back. I had done this before, I knew the set-up, I was excited to be presenting again in the WellMind tent. This year my focus was to offer an experiential session on Positive Neuroplasticity, developed by the wonderful Dr. Rick Hanson who I trained with in 2016 in Ireland and 2018 in America. The lovely thing about these practices is they are so short, it just take 10 – 20 seconds, a few times a day, to start noticing the small pleasant moments in our day. This really suits many people who are not into the longer formal practices. Rick talks about our inbuilt negativity bias, which was a great survival mechanism in the past, but nowadays it’s like a glitch in our stone age brains. So we need to intentionally notice some pleasant experiences that are present for us, by enriching and absorbing them into our sensory experience. In other words turning a thought into an installed sensory experience. It felt so good to be doing this with a tent full of WellFesters. Another great thing about this festival is that it is alcohol free, so that felt really good to be offering these teachings in a safe environment. Even though the music and presenters from the other tents could be heard on occasion, it didn’t take away from the safe container of practice we were experiencing in our tent. Looking forward to WellFest 2023!
